1. Write out the distribution coefficient (D) and the partition coefficient (K) equations for this system. (Hint: I am just look for what going on in each phase for each equation. No calculations should be done).
2. Calculate D at pH 4.00 if K = 50.
3. If 50 mL of 0.010 M HA are extracted with 100 mL ether, what will be the concentration of HA remaining in the aqueous phase at pH 2.50? At pH 8.50?
4. Will D be greater or less at pH 3.50 than at pH 4.00? Explain why.
