The one topic that I have selected is the age wise population of the world. The site shows that in the age group 0-4 years the population size is 699,305,132. In the age group 5-19 years the population size is 1,966,852,997. In the age group 20-64 years the population size is 4,287,757,464. Lastly in the age group 65-99 years the population size is 577,331,145.
Marketing managers might find this information highly useful as they will be able to develop and implement marketing plans based on demographics (age in particular) of the world population. When marketing manager has the data regarding the age wise breakup of the world population he/she will be able to identify ideal customers for the products and services that they are selling and will be able to develop marketing strategies with regards to advertisements, packaging of their products, pricing etc.
Three examples that could be relevant here are:
1. Take the example of Unilever. It recently introduced baby products like lotions, creams, soap, shampoos for toddlers and babies under its Dove brand in Asia. This was because the population growth rate is high in Asian countries and there is a string brand equity being enjoyed by Dove.
2. Cola major Coca Cola is reducing its dependence on sale of colas and focusing more on healthy beverages like juice and fortified water. This is because population in the group 20-64 years and 65-99 years have become health conscious and are avoiding drinks with high sugar content.
3. Car makers are embracing newer and cleaner technologies as with the rapid increase in population the resources of fossil fuels will be stretched in the future.
