In computer networking and queuing theory reduced service quality when a network node is transferring more data than it can handle. It typically effects include the packet loss, network delay and losses of connections.
When too many packets are contending for the same link it will be effected the following
- The queue overflows
- Packets get dropped
- Network is congested!
There are some causes to occur the congestion
- Too many hosts connected in same broadcast domain
When you place too many hosts in a broadcast domain it can creates the network congestion.
2. Broad cost storm
Storm means request, so many requests in the same network it can create congestion or bottle neck.
3. Less band width
When we are using low band width network and push more date on to the network causes creates the bottleneck.
4. Adding retransmitting hubs
When building out a network there needs to be the integration of hubs, hubs retransmit data over a network. Hub means what are the things connected to our public network.
Multicasting means two packets send at the same time can causes the collision. This collision causes network congestion.
6. Outdated hardware
Most of the times we are using existed hard ware like switches routers and other network equipment, it causes the network bottlenecks
7. Bad configuration
Fat fingers and misconfiguration are two things that can cause network congestion.
8. Border gate way protocols
Border gateway protocol can be creating network congestion, it can sends all the traffic through the shortest logical path. It is not consider how much data transferred at present over the path.
