Flow rate through the first step is 2 minutes per customer.

However there are two receptionists in the first step

Thus effective flow rate adjusted for single receptionist in the first step = 2 /2 = 1 minute

Flow rate through second step = 7 minute

There is only 1 cashier in the second step

Therefore, effective flow rate through the first step = 7 minutes

Flow rate through third step = 9 minutes

There are 3 license processing station

Thus effective flow rate adjusted for single processing station = 9/3 = 3 minutes

Thus effective flow rates as follows :

First step = 1 minute

Second step = 7 minutes

Third step = 3 minutes

The bottleneck step is the step which has the highest flow rate i.e. Step II with flow rate of 7 minutes. This will decide process flow rate.

Therefore process flow rate = 7 minutes per customer

Therefore, Flow rate of the process = 60/7 = 8.57 customers per hour ( 9 customers per hour )

If one server is added to bottleneck resource i.e. second step , the effective flow rate for the second step adjusted basis single server now will be = 7 /2 = 3.5 minutes

The new flow rate thus will be = 60 / 3.5 = 17.14 customers per hour ( 17 customers per hour )
