1NF:
In order to convert to 2NF we need to split the table into multiple tables which does has only functional dependancy on only the primary key;
Now the table became 2 NF
And the table is also 3NF which doesn’t had any multi valued attribute.
1NF: A table is in 1st Normal form if it doesn’t have any multivalued attribute, composite attribute or its combination in the same data domain, in the above table any cell doesn’t contain a multi value which means it is in 1NF.
2NF: A table meets 2NF when the 1NF requirement is met , and all attributes except the primary key have functional dependency entirely to the primary key. In the above table project name depends on project no; and department name depends on department no; so we can split the tables into Project, Employee, Department with the Primary keys Project code, Employee no and Department no.
3NF: In order to the table to be 3NF it has be 1NF, 2NF. all the attributes in a table are determined only by the candidate keys of that relation and not by any non-prime attributes. For Example the name column contains fname, lname ,and mname, in 3NF the fullName column in split into 3 columns. Therefore this table is in 3NF.
